William "Bill" James Waldhart

William “Bill” James Waldhart, age 68 of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday June 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Waldhart and his sister Cheryl Posthuma. Surviving are: his loving wife of 43 years Karen; his children Justin, Amy (Joshua), Ryan (Jillian), Travis (Althea); Cecelia, Josalyn, Jonah, Ari, Lucas, Thore, Quinn, Silas and Elsie; his mother Ruby , his brothers Joseph (Jennifer) and Robert (Karen); and many more loving family members. Bill’s life was a testament to the thrill of adventure, anchored by his unwavering faith in God and deep-rooted family values. Just a boy straight out of Compton, California, Bill grew up exploring LA on his Stingray bike. His mom always said, Just be home when the streetlights come on, and that’s just what he did. His family moved to Michigan when he was 13, where he lived down the street from a pretty pastor’s daughter. Karen and Bill’s love story started in the backyard, star-gazing on the family trampoline. On again, off again high school sweethearts, the Lord made it clear through miraculous signs and angelic visits that Bill and Karen would be the sweetest life partners; they fit together “like a hand in a glove”. A man after God’s own heart, Karen and Bill have enjoyed 43 years of joyful married life together. After graduating from Kenowa Hills High School in 1975, Bill went on to serve in the US Air Force, graduating with honors as a military firefighter, serving in Alaska and New Mexico from 1978 to 1982. Bill and Karen were married on September 19, 1981, and soon welcomed four children into their family: Justin, Amy, Ryan, and Travis. He was a devoted father, working tirelessly to provide well for his family. Bill loyally served as Installation Manager for Infinity Home Improvement for over 35 years. A skilled handyman and visionary, Bill remodeled the family's 125-year-old farmhouse, creating the special place they’ve called home for over 38 years. Bill and family have been deeply committed to serving at Resurrection Life Church in Grandville, Michigan, for 35 plus years. Bill was an adventurer and a hobbyist, always finding new things to enjoy, ranging from horses, motorcycles, fast cars, dirt bikes and sail boating. He was a passionate disc golfer, baseball player, and sailor. His love for adventure extended to hunting, where he ventured on caribou hunts and enjoyed fun times with the guys at the family hunting cabin. He was known for sharing stories about his adventures over a bowl of chili and playing Spitzer late into the night. Bill was an invested father, always willing and ready to have a long talk, share a profound truth, and point his children to Jesus. His fatherly love extended beyond his own children. He was a father to the fatherless, loving any friend, young person, or teenager who stepped into his life. He shared love and wisdom with anyone who would listen. An avid storyteller, Bill was known for sharing stories at family gatherings that always ended in laughter. Bill was a fun-loving person, known for his jokes and puns. His grandkids were the joy of his life; the perfect Papa. The kids will cherish their memories of sports games, recitals, sailing trips, campouts, sleepovers, dance parties, story time, and lots and lots of hugs and laughter. His presence brought joy and laughter to every family gathering, and his absence will be deeply felt. Of all the wonderful facets of Bill's life, the cornerstone and foundation were his faith in Jesus Christ and the gospel of grace. His faith was not just a belief, but a way of life that influenced every aspect of his being. Bill had a passion for the gift of the Holy Spirit and the revelation of God's grace. He was often found sharing his faith and the good news of God's goodness without holding back. This is the legacy that continues even after his passing. Bill’s passion for the gospel will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, and his legacy and testimony will continue to touch lives for years to come. The Celebration of his Life will be held Friday June 27 at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Life Church, 5100 Ivanrest Ave SW Grandville, MI 49418. His family will receive visitors Thursday June 26 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd. NW Grand Rapids, MI 49534 and Friday one hour prior to the Celebration of Life at church. Interment Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
