Thomas Michael Hebert Sr.

Thomas Michael Hebert Sr, age 81, of Grand Rapids, passed away February 18, 2025 surrounded by his family. Tom was born August 4, 1943, in Grand Rapids to William H. and Eileen J. (Dutmers) Hebert. Tom attended Catholic Central High School and graduated in 1962. Upon graduation, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army and did basic training at Fort Knox, KY. He was then stationed in Panama City, Panama. He volunteered to serve in the Vietnam War as a medic and shortly after moved back to the states to start a family with Aura Ortiz, whom he met in Panama. He was honorably discharged from service and began working for Meijer at the Meijer Distribution Center. He spent his entire career with Meijer and retired happily. He was very active with the Knights of Columbus Council 3104 for over 20 years and achieved the rank of 3rd degree. Tom lived a fantastic life spending time with family in the city of Saugatuck. He often spent summers with his brother Bill fishing on the lake, with his sister Peg and family boating to the beaches, or simply just visiting with family. He loved to go deer hunting with his brothers, golfing with his friends, playing pool and bowling, and watching old shows like Gunsmoke. He was an amazing father to his two children, Tommy and Melissa, and an even more amazing grandfather to his grandson Henrik. Tom and Henrik loved spending summers on the golf course or Saturdays watching football, cheering on their favorite team, University of Michigan. Tom was a collector of friends. He made friends everywhere he went and remained loyal to every one of them. He often spent his days calling and checking in, never missed birthdays or special events, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He simply saw the best in everyone he met. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Eileen (Dutmer) Hebert, his son Thomas Michael Hebert Jr., brothers William Hebert, Daniel Hebert, John Hebert, Richard Hebert. He is survived by his daughter Melissa (Hebert) Jachim; Grandson Henrik Jachim; siblings Louis (Marilyn) Hebert, Margaret (Dennis) Feuerstein, Mary (Keith) DeWitt, Patricia (Jerry) Higgs, and many nieces and nephews that he loved very much. The family will receive visitors Monday February 24th from 4:00-6:00 pm and Tuesday February 25th from 10:00-11:00 at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd NW Grand Rapids, where a Memorial Service and military honors will be held at 11:00 am.
