Roman "Romie" John Zobro

Roman “Romie” John Zobro age 83, passed away on Sunday November 5, 2017. Romie was preceded in death by his daughter Therese Marie and his parents John and Frances Zobro also by his brother Emery Zobro. He is survived by the love of his life Mary, they were married 62 years, also by their children Margaret (Sam) Myers, Karen (Tom) Oates, Steve (Dee) and Paul (Mary Jo) Zobro; his eleven grandchildren Mike (Elvia) Myers, Megan (Pat) Brehm, Mary (Eric) Wood, Michelle (Kurt) Debski, Jerry (Kelley) Oates, Elizabeth (Colin) Valliere, Nicole (Mark) Derrico, Morgan Zobro, Steven Zobro, Tony (Sarah) Zobro and Joe Zobro; also fourteen great grandchildren Sammy, Gigi, Catarina, Daniel, Jaysen, Kyle, Ava, Jacob, Kinsley, Roman, Oliver, Josephine, Anthony, Bridget and one on the way in 2018; his sister Sister Mary Joel Zobro R.S.M. of Walled Lake, MI and Thomas (Barb) Zobro of Pierson, MI; his in laws Katie (Mel) Pospiech, Patricia Tuohey, Michael Ladwig, several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Romie graduated from Catholic Central in 1952. He was also on the Catholic Central State Champion football team in 1951. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. He attended Marquette University, graduated from Aquinas College and Michigan State University. His first teaching was at St. Mary’s School. He also taught and coached at Kenowa Hills, Wyoming and Grand Rapids Public Schools. He was very proud of his 16 years of Catholic education. He also was an interior designer for many Catholic parishes in Kent and Ottawa Counties. He was a mentor to many Kent County Sheriff Officers as he worked out with them at Westside Fitness. He enjoyed his Fridays playing golf with his Catholic Central friends and Tuesdays at Lincoln Golf Course. He enjoyed watching his children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s games and any event they were in. He spent many hours reading and playing with them. The Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be held Monday November 13th at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church 2510 Richmond NW where the family will receive visitors at church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would like a special thanks to Emmanuel Hospice especially, Sr. Gabriela, Kristy, Jan and Cynthia.
