Mr. Lee Forslund

FORSLUND, BLAKE LEE, age 83, Born June 11, 1929, passed away peacefully September 30, 2012. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Joan (nee Priebe), children Sue Forslund-Johnson (Rick), Judy Forslund-LeMieux, Blake Forslund Jr., Mary Forslund-Schoenborn (Kenny), William Forslund (Robbi), Amy Forslund-Amos (John). Brothers, Carl Forslund Jr. (Anne), Jon Forslund Sr. (Mary), sister-in-law Maureen Priebe-Trzaskus, 19 grandchildren & 24 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephew, and close former son-in-law Allen LeMieux. He was preceded in death by parents, Carl & Marion Forslund. Blake was co-owner with his brothers, in the family furniture business, Carl Forslund, Inc., for 41 yrs. He served on the board of Butterworth Hospital for 21 years, was director & former president of the Greater GR Convention Bureau, a past president of Grand Rapids Rotary and a trustee for the Angell Foundation which owned North Manitou Island. He was appointed by Governor Milliken to the Great Lakes Fishery Advisory Committee and served as chairman for two years. God gave him the gift of wise council which was frequently sought by the decision makers of Grand Rapids. He had a unique ability to quickly consider all aspects of issues and offer advice with candor and grace. Exceptionally active in the community, serving God's Kitchen and Downtown YMCA, he believed in service above self and had a great sense of humor. Blake was an avid fly fisherman, played tennis all his life, and loved the outdoors, hunting, and birding. He enjoyed gardening, and growing beautiful roses in his yard. Most of all, he loved his family. He gave us a great legacy of leadership and service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, Marne where he will repose one hour prior to the Mass. His family will receive visitors Wednesday 7-9 pm, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance NW. Interment St Mary's Church Cemetery, Marne. A Vigil Service will be held Thursday at 7:00 pm followed by eulogies with visitation to continue thereafter. Memorial donations can be made to Kids Food Basket or Polycystic Kidney Foundation (www.pkdcure.org).
