Mr. Matthew Fouch

On Saturday, December 28, 2019, Matt, also known as “Coach” or “Fouchie” received the greatest victory of all, eternal life. Matt passed away peacefully with his wife Jill, by his side and knew it was time to follow God’s playbook. Matt will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Jill (Vaughan), and his three children, Jacob, Madelyn and Zachary. Matt also leaves behind his parents, Jerry and Sue Fouch, sister Allison (Brody) Duncan, brother David (Ashley) Fouch, sister in law Kristen (Tim) Hennessey and brother-in law Gregory (karri) Vaughan, as well as his grandfather Jerry Fouch. He also leaves behind his in laws, Gary and Carolyn Vaughan. Matt will remain in the hearts of his nephews, Brady and Max Vaughan, Cooper and Sullivan Fouch and his nieces Lucille and Scarlette Duncan. Matt will also be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Matt was greeted in Heaven by his grandparents Edward and Lucille Arsulowicz and Jesse Fouch. Matt was a graduate of West Catholic High School in 1992. He was an All Conference and All State golfer. He taught himself as a sophomore how to skate so he could play hockey his junior and senior years. Matt’s senior year he received the “Charlie Hustle Award” and was named All Conference for hockey. Matt had a love of baseball and was awarded All Conference his senior year. Matt went on to study Professional Golf Management at Ferris State University. Although Golf was a love of Matt’s, he found that he loved the teaching aspect of giving lessons and running clinics. He decided to return to school in the winter of 1997 to get his teaching and a Master's Degree at Aquinas College. Matt and Jill celebrated both their wedding and the start of his teaching career at East Grand Rapids Public Schools in the fall of 1999. Matt’s competitive spirit brought him to the game of football. Matt coached freshman football for EGR for 23 years, including this past fall. Matt was passionate on and off the field about students and athletes believing in themselves and working hard. Matt’s personality was contagious, he lived life trying to always be a better person than he was the day before and challenged others to believe in “Faith Over Fear.” Matt had a deep love for his wife and children and every moment it was important to him that he put them first and make memories to last a lifetime. Matt’s love and legacy will live on through his children, his pride and joy. A visitation will be held at Calvary Church on Monday, January 13, 2020 from 4:30-5:30 pm. His Celebration of Life Service will begin at 6:00 pm. Matt’s family invites you to join them for a tailgate honoring Matt directly after the service, complete with a chance to watch the first half of the National Championship Game. In lieu of flowers, if those who are inclined might consider a donation to “Team Fouch” for Matt’s children’s educational fund and other expenses.
