John Malon

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of our beloved son and brother, John Malon, who left us unexpectedly on June 25, 2024, at the age of 55, after a battle with a short illness. John was known for his kind heart, humor, infectious laugh, and generous spirit. He touched the hearts of many people with his compassion. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1969, John attended Holy Spirit School, Grandville High School and Western Michigan University where he studied Business. John had an entrepreneurial spirit -- he was owner of a convenience store, was an independent general contractor, and had numerous business ventures, along with a passion for antique dealing. In his generous spirit, he was always bringing lots of food to his family’s big Polish dinners, offering to pay for meals, and helping those in need. With this in mind, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in John’s memory to Feeding America West Michigan (feedwm.org), as a tribute to his compassionate and giving nature. John was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Malon, with whom he spent many late nights playing chess. He placed a mini chess set in his father’s casket and said that one day, when he passed, they would play chess again. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mitchell Malon. John will be forever loved by his mother, Julianna Malon, his brother, Eric Malon (Maria), and his sisters Maria Boyd (David), Barbara Frasier, and Christine Cole (Mike). John was a fun uncle and larger than life to his nieces and nephews, David and Matt Malon, Rachel and Michael Boyd, Cassandra and Tristan Frasier, and Erica Smole. He is also survived by many cousins in Michigan and family in Poland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Church on Saturday, August 3, at 11 a.m. Visitation with family will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass. His cremains will be placed at Holy Cross Cemetery, alongside the casket of his brother, Mitchell, during a private family Committal Service at a later date.
