Isabelle Droski

Isabelle Mary Droski, age 103, of Grand Rapids began eternal life with her beloved Lord on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. She passed away in peace at St. Ann's Home on the West Side where she lived all her life. She was born on April 18, 1909 at Baird Square, Holytown, County Lenark, Scotland U.K. of Vincent and Marijona Paltanaviciute Cizauskas. After her father was injured in a coal mining accident, the family later moved back to the Kaunas area of Lithuania where she lived with parents and siblings, Mary, Milda, Ann, William, and Frank. In February 1929 she entered the United States alone via Canada and became a U.S. Citizen in October 1935. Upon arrival she lived for several years with relatives in Lithuanian Town and continued to nourish her faith life at SS Peter and Paul Parish. It was her wish that her funeral be celebrated at SS Peter and Paul Parish where she continued her faith journey after arriving in the United States. In November 1933, she married Felix Droski (Drzazgowski) who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Rev. Norman Droski and many nieces and nephews in Lithuania and several cousins in the United States. One of the highlights of her life was the opportunity to visit her mother and relatives in Lithuania whom she had not seen for 50 years. She was employed at Knape and Vogt Manufacturing for most of her life and retired from the company. Isabelle was a longtime member of the Basilica of St. Adalbert. She was affectionately known by her friends as Isa and Scotty. Isabelle was very dedicated to her faith, and especially treasured the many young people who were part of her life. She loved her home and garden, and was very talented in sewing, cooking, and knitting. Prior to her death, she indicated she was most grateful for the many kindnesses of her friends and the Sisters and staff of St. Ann's Home. Her family will receive visitors Friday at the Arsulowicz Brothers Stocking Mortuary 585 Stocking NW from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with the praying of the Rosary at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS Peter and Paul Parish 520 Myrtle at Quarry NW at 10:00 am on Saturday where visitation prior to the Mass will be from 9:00 to 9:45 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SS Peter and Paul Parish or St. Adalbert's Parish.
