Mr. Herbert Dengler

Herbert Rudolph Dengler passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, November 28, 2014, at Spectrum Hospital Blodgett Campus. He was born on January 21,1929, in Germany and travelled to America in 1954 to explore its many opportunities. He married Esther (Werra) in 1957 and made Grand Rapids his new home. He was proud of his ac-complishments. He enjoyed working in his yard, sailing his catamaran, hunting, downhill and cross-country skiing, building furniture for his home, dancing at every party, traveling to Germany to visit his brothers and sisters, and hosting the family Christmas Eve party. He was a member of the Casino Club, The German Club - Edelweiss Club, and was a founding member of the Grand Rapids Ski Club. He cherished his family and did all that he could to make sure that each person felt loved. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Esther, daughter Karen, son-in-law Mark DeChant, and twin grandsons Nicholas and Har-rison. He is survived by his siblings Hans and (Hildegard) Dengler, Ama-lie and (Ernst) Berghofer, Helmuth and (Elfriede) Dengler, Ruth and (Siege) Wossner, Margret and (Egon) Heinzelmann, Anne and (Johann) Bauer, and Gertrud and (Fritz) Mader. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sr. Karen Werra RSM, his brother-in-law Anthony Alksnis, and many special nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Frieda Dengler, his mother and father-in-law Stephanie and Peter Werra, his brother Siegfried Dengler, his sister Krystal Dengler, his sister-in-law Geraldine Alksnis, and his brother and sister-in-law Russell and Margaret (Towner) Werra. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arsulowicz Brothers Mortuary 3525 Remembrance Road NW. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Rev. Mark Przybysz as the celebrant . Internment at Holy Cross Cemetery. A special thank you to Dr. Daniel Drumm, the staff in the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit at Blodgett, and the caregivers from Holland Home for their compassionate and wonderful care to our family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spectrum Health Foundation directed to the Acute Care for the Elderly Unit.
