Dolores Marie Kokx

Born on May 8, 1929. To Chester and Mary Dykewicz. Dolores is preceded in death by her mother and father, baby sister Arlene, brother Richard A Dykewicz M.D. and sister-in-law Evelyn Dykewicz. Beloved granddaughter Theresa Rose Kokx. Dolores is survived by her devoted brother Norman Dykewicz and her children Michael Kokx, David (Cynthia) Kokx, Robert (Kris) Kokx, Mary Frances (Phil) Carpenter. Grandchildren Stephen Kokx, Christine (Nick) Markoski, Jonathan Kokx, Laura (Tyler) Biggins, Colleen (Joe) Christensen, Kyle (Jessica) Dewey-Morales, Brian Morales. Great grandchildren Odyn, Nora, Ivaan and Adalena, Tucker, Gavin and Landen. Nephew Mark Dykewicz, M.D. (Lenora-Marya Anop) of St. Louis, MO, Clare A. Dykewicz, M.D. of Atlanta, GA, Philip Dykewicz of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, and Paul Dykewicz of North Bethesda, MD. Dolores grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended St. James Catholic School and then Mount Mercy Academy. Dolores's faith was very important to her. Dolores went on to graduate from Mercy School of Nursing. She made a road trip across the country with a girlfriend to work as a nurse at a VA hospital in Long Beach, California. She loved the ocean and her time spent there. She returned to Grand Rapids and worked full time as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, Butterworth Hospital and was a head nurse at Kent Community Hospital while raising her 4 children. After retiring, she spent many years volunteering at Blandford Nature Center and was also a Docent at the Van Andel Museum. Dolores enjoyed spending time with her friends from her Red Hat group and cherished the time spent together. Dolores loved to travel, but for many years could only watch Travelodge or TV shows about other countries. But once she retired , she traveled to Ireland, Italy, Poland, and several other countries. By plane or by ship, she loved each one of these experiences. Dolores attended sporting events for her children (often in her white nursing uniform, having come directly from work) and later her grandchildren as often as she could and was very proud of each one's athletic, academic or professional success. Although her memory was effected in the last 2 years of years of her life, she would often pray the rosary, and sing songs. She loved joining in the activities offered and was pleasant to all. Dolores was a kind soul , who unconditionally welcomed all of her children's friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday June 13, 2025 at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Church where she will repose one hour prior to the Mass. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery Her family will receive visitors Thursday June 12, 2025 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd NW. A rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Dolores's family would like to thank the nurses, aids, sisters and all those at St. Ann's for the care and kindness they have shown to Dolores. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blandford Nature Center in Dolores’ memory.
