Cynthia Marie Kirkwood

Cynthia Marie Kirkwood, originally Cynthia Marie Ann Johnson, died suddenly on February 14, 2025, in Grand Rapids, MI, at 69 years old. She is survived by her husband, Terrence James Kirkwood (68); her three children, Katie Kirkwood Cunha (44), Brandon Terrence Kirkwood (41), and Keven William Kirkwood (36); her son-in-law, Wilson de Angelo Cunha (44), and her three beloved grandchildren, Matthew Jakob Cunha (14), Isabella Lynn Cunha (10), and Chloe Angelie Cunha (8). In 1955, Cyndy was born to Valeria and Joseph Johnson and has two sisters: Linda Wiser, and Barbara Huisken, and a brother Richard Johnson who has passed on. Cyndy graduated from Kenowa Hills and attended one year of college at Grand Valley State University, where she pursued a business major. She married Terry in 1979, and during their lives, they went on to have three children: Katie, Brandon, and Keven. She was an amazing mom and homemaker for many years until she started working at the school her kids attended Zinser elementary. She was also known as the "neighborhood pool" for many years welcoming kids and families over to swim (which she loved to do). For the latter part of her life, she worked with the family business of managing/bookkeeping for the rental property with her husband and son Keven. She loved spending her free time at the beach, on the boat, traveling with her family and friends to places in Michigan, being with her kids, and grandkids and planning all kinds of fun things for everyone to do. Cyndy was an amazing woman who had really strong faith and walked with God daily. She was full of life, love, compassion, and generosity. Cyndy was selfless and often known for taking care of people that were suffering or in need. She was the kind of person that wouldn't want to "waste" money on buying nice things for herself but would see someone cleaning the floors of the bathroom at a hotel and give them money because God loved them. She would buy her clothes at Goodwill but take her grandkids to buy beautiful clothes to make sure they were dressed nicely for school. If you were around her, you would be sure to get a warm hug, and a smile. Even though her passing was unexpected and we will miss her immensely, we are encouraged that God says our days are numbered. That this was the day she needed to go home. We know she is in heaven right now, on a beach taking a swim and watching the sunset with many loved ones all around. That on Valentines day of 2025, God decided to give Cyndy the most beautiful gift of love, and welcome her home saying "well done good and faithful servant". Cyndy’s funeral will take place on February 22, 2025, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Community, located at 2510 Richmond St NW, Grand Rapids, MI—49504. Visitation starts at 10:00 a.m., mass at 11:00 a.m., and lunch at noon. We welcome family and friends to share in remembering Cyndy and grieving her loss. There will be a time at the luncheon to share any memories also.
