March 30, 1953 - September 7, 2020
A Catholic Mass in honor of Susan Marie Pierog, age 67, will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020, at 9:30am in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It will be live streamed @ www.saparish.com on Friday starting at 9:30 a.m. Susan passed away peacefully Monday, September 7, 2020 at her beautiful home that she loved with both of her daughters by her side holding her hand. A rosary was prayed at her bedside by her daughters minutes before she passed. The Lord received her on the very exact day of “Grandma Shirley’s” birthday – and Grandma Shirley, “Ma”, was there to welcome her to heaven. Serving as Celebrant of the Mass will be Reverend Mark, Pastor of St. Anthony’s of Padua. Musical selections will be, “Here I am Lord”, “On Eagles Wings”, and “Ave Maria”. For those who knew her, Susan Pierog was a light. A bright light. She had energy that would make you smile. Born March 30, 1953 to Thaddeus (Ted, aka POP) and Shirley Pierog in Grand Rapids, MI. She is a graduate of Mount Mercy High School. Susan is the mother to two children, Penny Sue Pelak (Timothy Bruce Maier) and Nichole Shirley (George Albert Jr.) Pena. Susan was known as “Grandmother” to her grandchildren: Jorge Alberto Pena III (age 7), Penelope Susan Pena (age 5), and Alejandro Cruz Pena (almost age 2). She is the sister to Teddy (Fred) Iacovoni and Sheryl Ann Cornell. And she was very close with her niece, Molly Iacovoni, and nephews Fred Iacovoni and Joe Iacovoni. Her Granddogs loved her too: Copper, Sugar Puff, and Franco. She is preceded in death by her parents. When Susan was young she loved Richmond Park, her kindergarten friends, swimming, diving, and playing in the trees. Her fun never stopped when she opened her business, Reds Salon and Spa. She owned her business for over 25 years. Not only did she love what she did, but she loved all the people she worked with and all the amazing friends she made. Susan was always impeccably dressed and ready for an outing or a party. She had spunk – fire – pizazz – attitude – and a kindness that would touch you and make you believe in yourself. Her advice was nonstop: • First Choice, Best Choice • If you don’t know, don’t go • If you know, you go, and you grow And if you knew her she would tell you what Jiminy Cricket says, “When you wish upon a Star, Makes no difference who you are, Anything your heart desires, Will come to you.” And everyone knew her for her favorite goodbye – “Have a Happy Day.” If you would like to give a gift please consider giving to D.A Blodgett – St. John’s Orphanage. https://dabsj.org/donation-form Our mother mentioned that she thought of these children often. Family was always the most important thing to her and she always put her children first.
