Steven Dale Dykstra Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Steven Dale Dykstra passed away on Saturday February 12, 2022. He leaves behind Loraine Sobie Driy, sons : Brett (Caitlin) Dykstra-Driy. , Brad McCullam. His mother, Marge (Ron) Cook of Moline, MI., brother, Greg (Dawn) Dykstra of Byron Center, sisters; Lori Dykstra of Peidmont MO. Amy Dykstra of San Diego CA, Mary (Dave) Geivett of AZ., Colleen (Joel) Hill of Wyoming, MI., Barb (Eddie) Gaines of Grand Rapids, MI., Larry (Sara) Cook of Holland MI., grandchildren ; Autumn and Liam Driy, Madelyn Gaetano, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Dale Dykstra of Wayland MI. Steve delivered the Grand Rapids Press before graduating in 1984 from Wayland High school. Later working at Wards Industries and Cook Brothers Painting. He was a diehard UofM fan, his Saturdays were spent cheering them on, and then on Sundays he would cheer for his favorite team, the Washington Redskins throughout football season. He loved movies with Tommy Lee Jones and Nicholas Cage. He could watch them as well as: Diehard, Home Alone and anything Star Wars for hours (and days) on end. He loved watching the tv shows: Walker Texas Ranger, Three's Company and CSI Miami. Steve was an AC/DC fan who would strike an air guitar pose as he sang along, knowing all the words to the songs. He did not like country, referring to it as 'tear in my beer' music. Up until the last few years Steve camped with both his and Loraine's families, often being one of the last ones round the campfire. He also loved a good bonfire...the bigger, the better. Steve's greatest joy was in spending time with his grandkids listening to “watch this grandpa Steve”, “Grandpa Steve watch me”, then proudly telling the stories of how they made him laugh to others. He loved teasing them (and other kids too) by calling SpongeBob "Cheesecake Circlepants". He greeted everyone with a smile; and the response “oh just peachy” when asked how he was doing. He would say that's just what happens when you get old, if he couldn't remember something right. Steve's passing leaves no more games of cribbage, spades, dice or bones (dominoes) no more “how ya doing pal” or “what's up old man” greetings. No more 'oh hi mom' phone calls. No more “oh really” responses. Donations may be made in memory of Steve to Degage in Grand Rapids or Project Hope in Dorr. Honoring Steve's wishes there will be no services.
