Mark Melvin Pospiech

Mark Melvin Pospiech, age 65, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2025, surrounded by his three beloved children while listening to the final song of his favorite Boz Scaggs album, Some Change. Born on September 15, 1959, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mark was a lifelong resident of the area, with the exception of a meaningful chapter spent out west. After graduating from high school, Mark attended Central Michigan University before heading to Phoenix, Arizona, with four close friends in search of adventure and opportunity. There, he began working at the original Price Club (now Costco) and met the love of his life, Lori Lynn. The two built a life together and were married for 30 years, raising three children: Robert, Kaitlyn, and Kelli. Mark and Lori returned to Michigan in 1990 to continue raising their family and Mark eventually settled in the Grand Rapids area, where he resided at the time of his passing. Mark is preceded in death by his father, Melvin Pospiech, and his brother, Martin (Marty) Pospiech. He is survived by his devoted mother, Katherine “Katie” Pospiech; his sisters, Julie Herrmann (Henry) and Jeanne Morgan (Curtis); his children, Robert Francis Pospiech (Jessica) of Grand Rapids, MI, Kaitlyn Pospiech Havens (Zak) of Ypsilanti, MI, and Kelli Renae Pospiech (Mike Donahue) of Grand Rapids, MI. He also leaves behind his six cherished grandchildren: Jaelynn, Rylee, Koier, Elena, Kaydence, and Landon — who brought him endless joy and pride. Mark was the heart and soul of every gathering. He thrived on connection, whether hosting backyard barbecues, cheering on his favorite football teams, or preparing Sunday dinners for his family. A master at the grill and a storyteller at heart, Mark found happiness in the simple things: a good cut of meat, a great playlist, and a house full of laughter. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart — especially when they’d request birthday meals that challenged his culinary talents (like his famous Beef Wellington). He was also an avid football fan and was instrumental in making sure his grandchildrens’ first words were “GO BLUE!” He was a Wolverine through and through and for decades traveled near and far to watch the Michigan/Ohio State game with fellow Wolverines and select Buckeye fans. It didn’t matter where they watched the game, as long as they were together. It was one of his most treasured traditions. His personal football career as a kicker at West Catholic High School included one of his proudest moments; winning the State Championship his senior year. More than anything, Mark was a devoted and present father. He never missed a game, a recital, or a chance to sit around the table with his children. His relationship with each of them was uniquely deep, built on years of support, laughter, and shared passions — especially for cooking and hard work. Kelli followed in her father’s footsteps into the world of accounting, and Robert continues to make culinary creations, a testament to his influence and encouragement. Mark’s legacy lives on in the memories of those who loved him. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the lifelong friends, neighbors, and extended community who enriched his journey — and whose lives were just as enriched by knowing Mark. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Polish Falcons on October 11, 2025. Details on the start time will be shared as the date approaches.
