Leonard (Leo) proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in Austria and Germany. As Corporal, Leo was responsible for Communications on the battlefield. Because of his military efficiency, intelligence and exemplary conduct, he was chosen to serve in the Troop B 4th Constabulary Squadron. Leo was Honorably Discharged in 1950. Leo was employed by General Electric before becoming the proud owner of Leo’s Appliance Repair Service for 30 years. His old-fashioned way of doing business often included a gentleman’s agreement. This lead to many customers becoming lifelong friends. After leaving the appliance repair business, Leo was a courier for several banks until the age of 90. Leo was a loyal member of the Elks Lodge where he was a past Exalted Ruler. He devoted much of his time in service to his lodge and the charities the lodge supported and in turn was richly rewarded with deep friendships. Until the age of 90, Leo and Marilyn rarely missed an evening at the lodge, sharing a draft with their many friends and playing Keno. They also enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, playing golf, playing cards and trips to the casino. We are deeply grateful to the staff at Yorkshire Manor for several years of loving care. Also, we are deeply grateful to the nurses from 2 South at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital, Dr Kartik Patel and the nurses with Spectrum Hospice for their compassionate and comforting care during Leo’s brief illness. In keeping with Leo’s wishes, and out of caution due to the pandemic, there will be no funeral services. For those wishing to make a donation in Leo’s memory, please direct to Spectrum Hospice, The Elks Lodge of Grand Rapids or the charity of your choice.
