Lawrence "Larry" Allan Slezak
February 11, 1945 - February 23, 2022
Lawrence “Larry” Allan Slezak, age 77, peacefully passed away on the evening of February 23, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He had blessed the lives of those that experienced his love, kindness, support, and companionship. Born at home on February 1, 1945, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Stanley and Evelyn (Drobot) Slezak. He attended St. Isidore Elementary School and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in 1963. In 1967, he was drafted, proudly served his country in the Army and earned a purple heart in Vietnam. He went on to earn his Associates Degree from Grand Rapids Junior College and retired from General Motors. As a man of strong faith, he shared his wisdom and knowledge with friends and family. He shared fond childhood memories of playing pond hockey, caddying, playing sports, and fishing. His active, analytical mind was constantly learning and understanding the world. Sharing his contagious smile, a twinkle in his eye, and friendly demeanor with others. He was a true gentleman. He embraced new technology for learning, entertainment and connecting with his family. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Maria (Vazquez) Slezak, his three children; Seth Slezak, Sarah (Todd) Hartman, Laura (Joe) Wahl and his grandchildren; Katherine and J.T. Hartman, Skyler and Jackson Slezak, Brady, Collin, and Brynn Wahl. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday March 12, 11:00 am at St. Isidore Church, 628 Diamond Ave NE, celebrant Msgr. Ed Hankewicz. His family will receive visitors Saturday from 10:00 am-11:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a charitable donation on his name to www.jdrf.org
