    Mr. James Dean Kozal

    April 25, 1940 - June 29, 2021

Born to Mary Ann and Max Kozal of Grand Rapids, Michigan, James “Jim” Dean Kozal passed peacefully into the arms of his loving Father on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 81 years of age. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Jimmy. James is survived by his devoted wife, Kristine Kozal (nee Noordyke); son, John (Jayne); daughter, Julie Ann; sisters, Jacqueline and Marilyn; and three grandchildren: Colin, Makenzie, and Curtis. James received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1960, following service aboard the U.S.S. Moale. After 42 years of employment with CSX Railroad, he retired and was able to devote more time to golfing, travel, and watching his beloved Detroit Tigers/Detroit Lions play ball, in addition to socializing with buddies from Catholic Central High School, Ducks Unlimited, the Moose Lodge, and 5th Street Hall. His love for hunting, training Beagles and black Labradors, and working his hobby farm in Sparta brought him much peace and joy. James was deeply committed to his faith; therefore, a Catholic Mass will be held at the beautiful Basilica of St. Adalbert on Tuesday, July 6, at 11:00 am, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am. A luncheon follows the service at The Guest House, a short walk away. In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Spectrum Health Hospice & Palliative Care.
