Mr. Glen R. Ogden age 92, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 12, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Doris, grandson Joe Ogden, daughter-in-law Joanne Ogden and son in law Tim Tobin. Surviving are his loving wife of 69 years Marilyn Ogden (Vance); children: Rae Ann (Keith) Bunce, Bill (Janet) Ogden, Paula (Jim) Maloley, Nancy Tobin, nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren. Glen was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Glen enlisted in the Army in 1946. He was sent to Ft. Lee, Alabama for basic training. Upon completion of his basic training he volunteered for duty in an airborne unit. He was then assigned to duty with Company I, 187th Glider Infantry Regiment 11th Airborne Division. He completed jump school and was qualified as a parachutist. He also completed glider training and was qualified as a glider infantry soldier. Glen’s unit was shipped to Japan where he was a part of the first army to occupy Japanese soil in over 1000 years. After his duty in Japan, his unit returned to the states and Glen received an Honorable discharge from the army. In 1950 Glen became a student at Western Michigan and joined the Reserve Officers Training Corps. Because of his prior military experience, Glen was given the rank of Captain of Cadets an served until 1952. He worked for many years with Travelers Insurance and later retired from the State of Michigan as Workman’s Comp Representative. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. Memorial contributions to the St. Mary's Food Pantry will be appreciated.
