David Morse Horton

February 24, 1958 - February 2, 2021

David Morse Horton, born February 24, 1958, passed away during the evening of February 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by father Robert Morse, mother Martha Carey Horton, stepfather Ray Horton, sibling Marlin Morse, and son Paul David Horton. He is survived by siblings Sherrie Horton Mukherjee, Robin Morse King Marihugh, Cindy Morse Finney, Debra Morse Davidson, and his daughter Diana Horton. Dave was so many things: truly a dynamic, creative man with his own unique brand of absurd and unconventional humor and a particular fondness for beat generation writing and music. In his own words, he was a “broke beat wizard”. He was also an incredibly loving son, brother, uncle, father and friend. He served in the USAF as a bomb navigational systems technician and received an honorable discharge before earning a degree in Journalism with a minor in Art from Central Michigan University. He worked in Michigan for forty years as a graphic artist and taught computer and internet classes to seniors in an adult education program. He volunteered in community theater, for Habitat for Humanity and as an independent radio programmer for five years at WYCE 88.1 FM in Grand Rapids -- he is known to many affectionately by his radio name, "Sam Hill". In his personal time and recent retirement he began compiling his original writings, poetry, illustrations, music and photography. His daughter looks forward to completing this compilation and releasing a final book. Due to the current pandemic a memorial celebration of life will be held online in the near future, to be followed at a later date by an in-person memorial celebration.
