William "Bill" James Burke III

William “Bill” James Burke III, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on his 87th birthday, February 9, 2025. Bill grew up at Rosedale, taking over the business from his dad. His work ethic was unmatched, and he spent his entire life working hard and never retiring. Throughout his life, he was always tinkering, finding joy in odd jobs, and dedicating his time to others. Bill was a devoted member of the Walker volunteer fire department for 35 years where he rose to the rank of Chief. On April 12, 1958, Bill married the love of his life, Rosie Kessel, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years. Together, they raised three children: two sons and one daughter. He was known for his love of the outdoors, whether camping at the property in Irons, watching the river flow at the trailer on the Muskegon River, or taking rides to Grand Haven to watch the waves and boats. Bill is preceded in death by his wife Rosie (2023), his son Don, his son-in-law Bill Bly, and his great-granddaughter Rylee Bly. He leaves behind his son Bill Jr. (Kathie) Burke, daughter Gail Bly, and daughter-in-law Kim Burke. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Steve (Jill) Bly, BJ Burke (Maggie), Mandy (Casey) Gleich, Tony (Lea) Bly, Jeff (Leigh) Burke, Becky (Brad) Nummerdor, Mike Bly, and his 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his only sister, Ann Bushaw, sisters in law Barb Campos (Mike) Sally Kessel, and brother-in-law Keith Teunis. Bill was deeply cherished by his many friends, including those from the Walker Fire department and the many “coffee shops”. His kindness, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Bill will be greatly missed by all who loved him. His legacy of hard work, dedication to family, and caring nature will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. Bill has been cremated and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:30 am at Remembrance Church, 4575 Remembrance Rd NW, GR. 49534 Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10am to 11:30am at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made directly to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Bill’s memory.
