Walter Thomas Wnuk (Walt)

Walter Thomas Wnuk (Walt), age 76, of Belmont, Michigan, left this earth and was reunited with the love of his life, Kathy, on Friday, September 23, 2022. Walt was preceded in death by his wife Kathy (Kathleen) on December 15, 2021, his parents Walter J and Genevieve Wnuk, and his brothers Stanley, Joe (Joseph) and Bob (Robert) Wnuk. He will be deeply missed by his 3 children, Cheryl (Tim) Moore, Lisa Wnuk, and David (Lisa J) Wnuk; his grandchildren, Austin (Sierra) and Haley Moore; Emma and Greyson Wnuk; Tyler, Lauren, and Morgan Wnuk; his brothers Ed (Julie) Wnuk, Rich (Sally) Wnuk, Tom (Marie) Wnuk, and Marcia (Denny) Saganski, along with many nieces and nephews, his special friends, and all others that who held a special place in his life. We are comforted knowing he is reunited with his wife and their love will live on forever. Walt was born in Grand Rapids on May 16, 1946 and was a graduate of Central High School. He met and fell in love with Kathy (Wiseman) and later moved to Phoenix, AZ to be with her. They married on January 20, 1967 and returned to Michigan in 1976 to be closer to their families as their own family grew. Walt and Kathy were married nearly 55 years, raising their 3 children, enjoying their 7 grandchildren, traveling, camping, and spending time with their many friends. Walt is a former member of the Knights of Columbus and current member of the Casino Club of Grand Rapids. He worked many years as a supervisor in the manufacturing industry at companies including GE, Yamaha, Honeywell, Bissell and Lacks. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spent many summers living the “camping life” in their 5th wheel camper where he made many life-long friends. He was a handyman and always had several projects he was working on. If you needed something fixed, he was your guy - he always had to keep busy! He also enjoyed fishing and was a fan of anything car-related. Walt enjoyed helping others - whether it was his family or friends, he was always eager to lend a hand. If he started on one project, he’d find several other things that needed to be fixed along the way. There was never a “quick fix”! Walt showed his love through his actions and giving of himself. He had a great sense of humor and loved being silly or playing jokes on others. He was an amazing dad and even more amazing grandpa - either building some crazy contraption for the grandkids to play on, playing cards or reading with them, and ending each visit with a peppermint candy. You could always count on him if you ever needed anything. The love Walt had for his wife Kathy was endless. Either through handwritten cards or notes, or small thoughtful gifts, he shared his love for her in simple, yet meaningful ways. Although his heart shattered the day she left this earth, he remained strong for his children and grandchildren and fought through a very tough year. A memorial service honoring both Walt and Kathy’s lives will be held Friday, October 14, 2022. Due to a Covid spike at the time and Walt’s health, a service had not yet been held for Kathy and the family would like to honor their lives together. The memorial service for Walt and Kathy will be held at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary (3525 Remembrance Rd NW in Walker). The family will receive visitors from 11 AM - 12 PM, with the memorial service starting at 12 PM. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Casino Club of Grand Rapids (3260 Salerno Dr NE) from 2 PM - 5PM. We invite you to come and celebrate their lives, love, share stories, laugh and rejoice that they are together once again. The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated nurses, nurse techs, PA’s and doctors at Spectrum Health Hospital while Walt was in their care.
