Robert (Bob) A Del Raso

Robert (Bob) A Del Raso, 79, passed away on Thursday, June 20 at Yorkshire & Stonebridge Manors in Walker, MI. He was born on November 29, 1939 in Grand Rapids, MI to Adolph Del Raso and Edith (Antonini) Del Raso. Bob grew up in Grand Rapids, MI and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1958. He served in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician for almost 22 years. He served aboard the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War and aboard the USS Barton during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was the recipient of many medals and awards during his time in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy in September 1981, as a Senior Chief, he taught electronics for a few years and then worked for the City of Grand Rapids in the Traffic Safety department where he retired from in May, 2002. Bob married Gladys (McCarthy) Del Raso on July 28, 1962 in Binghamton, NY. They were happily married for 50 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Del Raso, his father, Adolph Del Raso, and his sister Judith Moler. Bob is survived by his mother, Edith Del Raso; children, Maria (Al) Volansky of Walker, MI; Bobby Del Raso of Fremont, Indiana and Sue Del Raso of Comstock Park, MI; brother, Carl Del Raso; brother-in-law, Bob Moler; grandchildren, Beth Del Raso, Andy Del Raso, Nick Del Raso, Brett Basehore and Kayla Basehore; two aunts, Lucille Kazma and Nancy Poggi and many nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Navy life took his family to many places near and far. It allowed them to make friends with people who became like family to them and continue to remain in their lives. Ron and Rhoda Clemens and their children, Kent, Tracy and Randy and Kathy Provost, Ed Provost and their children Denise, Linda and Karin are those people to them. The family would like to thank the staff at Yorkshire and Stonebridge Manors for the love, care and dedication showed to him for the past four years. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Emmanuel Hospice for their support in his final days. A visitation will be held Monday June 24th from 2 to 4PM and 7-9PM at Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Chapel, 3525 Remembrance Road NW, Walker, MI. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday June 25th at 11AM at the funeral home, where the family will receive visitors an hour prior to the Service. Cremation and burial will take place at a later time.
