Robert (Bob) Joseph Aman Sr.

Robert (Bob) Joseph Aman Sr., aged 94, of Grand Rapids, MI, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He was born in Holland, MI on June 5, 1930, the youngest of ten children of Francis and Lillian Aman. On June 9, 1956, Robert married the love of his life, Doris Ann Turel. They were married for 43 years until her passing in September 1999. Robert’s Catholic faith was a large part of his life and was a source of comfort in the years after her passing. He graduated from Aquinas College and received his master’s in public health from the University of Michigan. After his graduation, Robert went on to work for Kent County and the State of Michigan. His work for the state took him to all parts of Michigan and one of our fondest childhood memories was listening to dad’s stories of his travels and interactions with the farmers and migrant workers he was in contact with. Robert was awarded the Humanitarian Award by Michigan governor Bill Milliken for saving a woman’s life while he was on the job. Robert was also an avid history buff and loved sharing stories of his childhood in Holland and of his four older brother’s exploits in Europe and the Pacific during World War II. Robert was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He took joy when telling the story of the day he shot two bucks, or the time he shot two turkeys with one shot. Robert was a great storyteller, painter, and a published author. A lifelong Michigan Wolverine, dad and mom held season tickets at the Big House for 25 years. Robert is survived by his children, Robert Aman Jr/Annie Aman, Mary/John Noyes, David/Linda Aman, Stephen/Tammy Aman, and Michelle Aman. Eleven grandchildren; Karlie/Robert Stone, Lily/Christian Dean, Rachel/Matthew Eckelbarger, Stephanie/Jacob Tebbe, Matthew Noyes, Jacob Aman, Mitchell Aman, Grant/Emily Aman, Tyler Aman, Casey/Deanna Aman, Shelby/Patrick O’Leary. Four great-grandchildren; Lucy and Josie Tebbe, Helena Aman and Peter O’Leary; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Doris, his mother and father; his nine siblings and their husbands and wives. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 23, 2025, at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Rapids where he will repose one hour prior to the Mass. Visitation will be held 4 -7 pm, immediately followed by a rosary on Wednesday January 22 at the Arsulowicz Brothers East Mortuary, 937 Michigan St. Grand Rapids, Michigan.
