Patrick Killian Byrne

Patrick Killian Byrne, the eighth child of Donald and Marie Byrne was born on October 7, 1944, in Utica NY. He died peacefully at home on January 22, 2025. Pat was a gentle, caring soul who loved his family over everything. He was deeply committed to his faith, humble, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves a hole in the universe. After Pat returned home following completion of his military service, he met his soul mate, Marlene Markoski. They married in 1969. They had two sons, Sean and Jeff. Jeff had two sons, Conner and Ethan. Tragically, Pat suffered heartbreaking losses—first, his son Sean, who died in 2005, then his beloved wife Marlene passed away in 2016, and finally grandson Conner died in 2018. Despite his grief, Pat managed to live a fruitful, fulfilling life for the remainder of his years. He leaves his son Jeff, grandson Ethan, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Sandy Byrne, sister and brother-in-law Kate Byrne and Bill Cavellini, sister-in-law Joyce Byrne, and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins. Pat was a life-long fan of Notre Dame football, a volunteer at Oasis of Hope Center for years, and a lector at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. In addition, he conducted prayer services for prison inmates. He was a US Army veteran and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. He took great pride in his Irish heritage. The family wants to express our gratitude to the wonderful staff at Faith Hospice who provided amazing care for Pat in his last days. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. His family will receive visitors on Thursday January 30, 2025, from 5- 8 pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd NW and Friday one hour prior to the Mass at church. A Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oasis of Hope Center, 522 Leonard St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504-4258. Oasis of Hope is a free medical clinic that provides health services to economically disadvantaged and uninsured people.
