Mrs. Frances Eddington

A lively spirit left this earth on August 29. Mary Frances Eddington, beloved wife, wise mother, and adventurous grandmother, embraced life to the fullest by spreading joy wherever she traveled. Mary met the love of her life, David Jerome Eddington, at Aquinas College and devoted the rest of her life supporting him unconditionally in his career as an educator. Family was true passion for Mary who stayed at home to raise nine children. She grew up in a Polish enclave near St. Isidore's where her relationships centered around faith, family, and fun. Mary drew on the strength of her aunts and mother who taught her how to navigate through life on a journey of service to others. Mary was preceded in death by her husband David, her parents Martin and Laura Schnur, her brother Martin, her sister Katie and sister-in-law Diane Wisz. She is survived by sisters Susan Schnur and Nancy O'Keeffe (John), her brother Franz Schnur, many nieces and nephews, and special aunt, Isabel Butkiewisz. Nine children and 23 grandchildren honor Mary as an extraordinary matriarch: Jean Eddington-Shipman and Rick Shipman (Kelly, Patrick, Casey); Sheila and Dr. Tom Moore (Megan, Kristina, Emily); Kathy and Rick Packer (Nick, Allie); Bill Eddington (David, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Brad); Julie Eddington-Marion and Pat Marion (Riley, Mandy); Michelle and Omri Winterberger (Elan, Danielle, Rachelle); Mike and Shelly Eddington (Molly, Bailey); Mary and Mitchell Sigsworth (Gabriella, Maximillian); and Maureen and Jack Powell (Thomas, Ryan). Visitation is Friday, Sept. 9 at Arsulowicz Brothers East Chapel from 4-7 pm at 937 Michigan St. NE, Grand Rapids. A funeral mass will be held 1 pm Saturday, Sept. 10 at St. Isidore's followed by a luncheon, 628 Diamond Ave NE, Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St Ann's Home, 2161 Leonard NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, where she received excellent nursing and spiritual care; or to Great Lakes Caring Hospice (1-800-311-5365). Two organizations enthusiastically supported by Mary were Michigan State University where five granddaughters currently attend (University Advancement, MSU , 300 Spartan Way, East Lansing, MI 48824-1005) and Union High School where her son is the baseball coach (Union High School Baseball program, 1800 Tremont, Blvd, NE Grand Rapids, MI 49504).
