Michael Glen Moberly

Michael Glen Moberly passed away unexpectedly on 4/30/22. Mike is preceded in death by his Mother Lois (Brandt) from Grand Rapids, his Father Glen Moberly from Irvine Kentucky, Mother-in law Shirley Andrie, Cousin Patty Moberly and multiple Aunts and Uncles. As well as his best buddies Chuck, Scott and Tony. He is survived by his loving wife, Patti, of over 30 years, his sons Joe, Jay (Becky) and Chris (Christina), grandsons, Ethan, Noah and Cameron. Sister, Lori Thomson, Father-in-law Dave Andrie, brother-in-laws Tom (Kim) DePuit & Mike Anthony. Aunt Etta Clay from Kentucky, several nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews and cousins. Mike was born on March 23, 1957 and was AKA ‘Glens Boy’ whenever he visited Kentucky with his cousins as a youngster or by the nickname ‘Spike’ given to him by his Uncle Bill. Mike was a 1975 graduate of Kenowa Hills High School and had many a story to share, as we all know. After high school, he hitchhiked out to California to enjoy the ‘West Coast Life” but that was short lived and he made his way back home. Mike had a few jobs after high school but then took a job in July of 1979 with Handy Wacks in Sparta. Handy Wacks was Family to Mike he spent the next 43 years working with Hank, Marcia, Tim, Steve and the rest of the Handy Wacks family. He formed lifelong friendships inside and outside of the company. Mike had many hobbies and interests over the years that kept him busy. He enjoyed the time he spent with Glen (aka Dad) and Paul selling Christmas Trees and loved the thrill of the Sale. They would compete to see who could sell the most! He spent quite a few years raising and running beagles and occasionally did some breeding. He enjoyed the weekend Field Trials and the trips to the UP with Chuck, Randy, Warren and many others (even blizzards did not stop them) Mike enjoyed watching Joe, Jay and Chris play little league baseball and could often be found at the 3rd baseline or in his truck watching. Mike was not a quiet spectator and sometimes it was best that he watch from the truck. He loved to golf and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to golf at many of the top courses in the US with John, Paul numerous others. Just to name a few, Sawgrass, Scottsdale and Pebble Beach. His weekly golf league commitment of 36 years with the Shaft (aka Ron) was something he cherished. He LOVED his yearly shared Birthday Trip to South Carolina where he was able to golf with Paul, Billy, Bobby and others. Apparently, he could be found in the kitchen challenging Libby with his cooking skills. Rumor has it he won the Lasagna Cook-off against her. His LOVE of cooking will be remembered and missed by all!! No one can make Beans like Mike! If Mike were bored, he would make chili or some type of soup, no matter summer or winter! His infamous ‘Shepard’s Pie’ will be missed by Dave . He loved his Harley and the NO Helmet law!! Mike even had the opportunity to ride around the Big Island of Hawaii. He sure could ROCK the Biker look!!! In Cancun, they thought he was Paul Sr. from Orange County Choppers. Mikes home away from home was ‘The Cabin’ or better known and lovingly referred to as Cedar “Crik”. Mike enjoyed his time there hunting, shooting guns, playing cards or just sitting around the table laughing it up with the guys or just sitting quietly in his chair at the head of the table looking out the windows at the view. Mike was definitely a People Person and had the gift of gab and an undeniable quick wit. He made people laugh. He was quick to strike up a conversation with anyone sitting next to him and hopefully the one sitting next to him on a plane was in the mood to talk! However, Mikes gift of gab did not carry over when talking on the phone. He said what he had to say and would hang up with no "Goodbye" even if you were in mid sentence when Mike was done, he was done! Mike also carried on the family tradition of giving people nicknames. Some flattering some not so much (imagine that!). Mike was a creature of habit and as we all know he loved ‘His Chair’, You could find him there watching General Hospital during the week and the Lions EVERY Sunday. Screaming #&#! ...THROW THE DAMN BALL!!! He was also the neighborhood watch! “There goes Ding, there goes Leggs…where do those girls go” he would say and every time I would say “it really is not your business”!! He would reply, “Everything is my business” Mike loved to tease and to ‘Get in your head’ and will be forever remembered by so many for that….for example Sue putting on her pink lip gloss, Ding, AKA Beth, Leggs, AKA Diane, and all others who would get the poke in the ribs "HA", and I GOTTCHA to scare Joe Joe as he would come around the corner There was only one Mike Moberly in this world and anyone who knew Mike would agree. Mike was a Man’s Man and had no filter and told it how he thought it should be and he was right more than he was ever wrong. Mike was not the King of patience, a title he owned and was proud of. You either loved him or hated him and that is the way he liked it, even though deep down he did care and would do anything for you. Mike left his mark on this world and touched numerous lives in multiple ways. He is loved and will be remembered and missed by so many. His love/addiction to Keno helped support the State of Michigan so in lieu of flowers we all may need to donate to the State of Michigan or to a charity of your choice Cremation and a private Celebration of Mikes life was held at Thousand Oaks Golf Club on June 23.2022
