Marvin J Lummen

Marv Lummen passed away Labor Day weekend after valiant battle with Cancer and Dementia. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 47 years Margaret ‘Peg’ Lummen and his parents Mary & Jesse Lummen. He is survived by His sister Ina (Herman) VanderMeulen, his sons Jason (Katie) Lummen & Patrick (Stefani) Lummen & his beloved Grandchildren Donovan, Josefine, Cameron & Theodore. Marv was born and raised in Newaygo Michigan on 80 wooded acres where he likened his childhood to that of Christoper Robin. Marv married the love of his life in 1971, settling and raising their family in the Eastown neighborhood of Grand Rapids. A dedicated urbanist Marv loved cities and the people who make them vibrant. A proud union man and dedicated liberal his empathy for others was a virtue. Beyond his dedication to family Marv’s great joy in life was motorsports, he bought his first corvette in 1968 and was never without one again. He was a charter member of the Grand Valley Corvette Association, racing in hill climbs and speed events with his Vette. Marv was also a member of the Furrin Group Auto Club, starting in TSD Rally and speed events he moved to SCCA ProRally and ClubRally in the 1980’s & 90’s. A large portion of Marv’s social life revolved around these clubs and racing, the friends he made were a great strength. Marv’s professional career was spent in Urban Planning with the City of Grand Rapids. He was proud of his public service to the city & those who served with him. It is fitting that Marv passed Labor Day weekend, he spend his last last mortal hours watching racing with his sons and listening to jokes. Solidarity forever brother Marv we trust you are driving a vette with Peggy in the passenger seat, may you be faster in death than you were in life. A Casual Irish Wake for a Dutchman will be held Sunday September 18th from 1:00-3:00pm at The Peoples Cider Company 539 Leonard Street NW Grand Rapids, MI 49504 In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Furrin Group Car Club who will organize an event in his honor.
