Marilyn Hendges

Marilyn Hendges, age 87, passed away in her home on September 20, 2022, 8 months after her losing her best friend and beloved husband Richard. Marilyn was born on April 28, 1935 to parents Lyle and Velma Duclos. Marilyn and Richard, friends since childhood, started their lifetime together on June 28, 1957, and spent the next 64 years traveling the country, mainly the southwest, collecting Native American art and jewelry as well as attending their grandchildren and great grandchildren’s many activities. Marilyn will be remembered as an opinionated, strong woman, who never forgot a birthday or an anniversary, for teaching her granddaughters that being classy and having your own style would always be in fashion, and for getting tipsy from her two nightly glasses of wine. She will also be remembered for her independence. She graduated college and obtained full time employment outside of her home, during a time period when women were not always encouraged to be self sufficient. Those left behind to mourn her and to carry on her memory include her only child, Kristine (Dale) Feutz, grandchildren Shannon Del Raso, Richelle (Michael) Engle, Dale Feutz Jr, Kayla (Libby) Feutz, and Kelsey (Conor) Amick, and great grandchildren, Ava and Bennett Del Raso, Aubrianna and Brooklyn Engle, Frances Feutz, Dallas Sumerix, and Asher Amick. She will also be dearly missed by close family friends Dave Leibson and Patrick Del Raso. Our family would like to thank Emmanuel Hospice and Health Care Associates (HCA) for allowing Marilyn to live her last days with dignity and comfort. Without their assistance, Marilyn and Richard’s last wishes, to keep Marilyn home, would not have been possible. The around the clock care provided by the compassionate HCA home health aides and the additional assistance given by Emmanuel Hospice, provided peace and solace to both Marilyn and her loved ones. We are unable to fully express our appreciation for your services providing Marilyn the ability to choose how she wanted to live at the end of her life. We are all saddened by our loss, but grateful that she is now reunited with the love of her life. A service will be held on Monday September 26, 2022, at 11 am at Holy Spirit Parish, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr NW Grand Rapids, 49504. Visitation will held at 10:00 am with a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School in New Mexico, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
