Our mom passed peacefully in the early morning hours of October 4, 2025. While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85 year old woman who lived a healthy and wonderful life, we know grief is unavoidable, it comes in waves, it waits around unexpected corners. Grief, like love, is ever present. You are never old enough to lose your mom, especially one as wonderful as the one we had. The only comfort is that she will be reunited with our father, who she missed every day since his passing. We are grateful for Mom’s strength. We are grateful for the life she built with our father, Dr. Peter App, to whom she was married to for 53 years, had many children, built a loving life, enjoyed so many moments fully, and cared for until he passed. We extend our gratitude to Faith Hospice for her final care, and to Eva Delgado and Joyce Wideman who were faithful caregivers and companions to our mother, and to whom she loved so dearly. Mom did all the things. “The Margo” as she was called, was a powerhouse of women's rights, human dignity, and equality. She was incredibly bright, talented, and well-educated. Mom was an advocate for education and worked her way to a doctorate in a time when it was not vogue for women. She was unapologetic, full of sass, and ever the manager. She was the family matriarch, giving her everything in all the things for as long as she could. Mom was then lovingly cared for by her children, and was generously given the gift to stay within the home of her son and his wife, Drs. Michael and Colleen App, until her death. In her hay day, Margo and Peter had space for all in need of a place to reside. She was known to host a great party, to lend a hand, and be the first to bring you a meal in a time of need. She was the touchstone to her family. She would tease with a mischievous wink and a head thrown back in laughter. We are grateful for her love, work ethic, faith, and humor. The best gift she gave her children was her tireless belief that her children could do and be anything they wanted, a gift we hope is passed onto the next generation. There is so much to say about our mother, her children will never be done talking about how wonderful she was, or our father, so bear with us. We share these memories with our appreciation for the kind and brilliant woman, friend, mother and grandmother she was, as well as the loving legacy she left behind. She will be deeply missed. The world is less kind and less bright with her absence. She is survived by her two sisters Sherry (Jerry) Flint, Patty (Richard) Johnson, and her children, Megan (Richard) App, Michael (Colleen) App, Richard (Monica) App, Bob Allgier, Rob (Cecy) App, Mary (Keegan) App-Kok, Susan (Ben) Zarzecki, and her many grandchildren, with whom she loved so dearly and took much delight in. We take solace knowing she will reunite with her brother, Howard Dahl, and our father, Dr. Peter App. We hope her dance card stays full and lively in heaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Church on Friday, October 17 at 10:00AM at 224 Carrier St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. The family will receive visitors one hour prior.
