Kevin Charles Saunders

Kevin Charles Saunders, 70, passed away at his home on October 26, 2024 in Grand Rapids, MI. Son of Clare Saunders and June Hulbert, Kevin was born on August 12, 1954 in Jackson, MI. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1973. Kevin thereafter attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI and Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA. Kevin met the love of his life, Kathleen Pierce at a KOA Campground, in Jackson, where they were both working at the time. Kevin knew Kathleen was the one from the moment he met her, and, sure enough, Kevin and Kathleen were married in Jackson in 1983 at Queen of the Miraculous Medal. Kevin and Kathleen then moved to West Virginia and Kevin received his Physician’s Assistant degree from Alderson-Broaddus College in Phillipi, WV in 1988. That same year, their eldest daughter, Meghan, was born. Kevin and Kathleen moved to Grand Rapids, MI where they would make a house a home and live the rest of their lives together. Two additional children, Kyleen, followed by Patrick, would also come along to make the family complete. Kevin spent his life helping people first as an EMT and then as a Physician’s Assistant. Kevin may have retired in 2018 but didn’t sit still and never stopped helping people. Kevin took pleasure in the simple things in life. Kevin and Kathleen enjoyed spending their time at the trailer, playing cards with their family and friends, and going on trips to new places. Kevin always looked forward to the annual Father’s Day fishing trip with his son and friends. You could always catch him at a Catholic Central Friday night football game, rooting for Michigan on Saturdays, Go Blue!, and watching the Lions play on Sundays. Kevin had many hobbies: chasing bees at Notre Dame; picking up shiny objects on the ground, whether it be a washer or a penny; and losing his possessions, including but not limited to, his glasses, his wedding ring, his wallet, his keys, and last but not least his cell phone. If you knew Kevin, you knew never to try to get ahold of him on his cell phone. Carrier pigeon was a more acceptable method of communication. Kevin was a deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected. Kevin made all those who met him feel like family just by talking to them, even strangers. Kevin will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathleen; their children: Meghan, Kyleen, and Patrick; his grandchildren: Costina, Adelina, Oliver, Kibsyna, and Ynesura; David and Liz Barnes; DeAnna Pierce and Bob Weed; his dogs: Eddie and Maizey; and his grand dog: Agnes. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MI. The family will receive visitors at the Arsulowicz Brothers East Mortuary, 937 Michigan St NE, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. We invite you to write your favorite memories of Kevin on an index card or piece of paper, so that the family may make a book of memories and bring them to the visitation. During this time, the family wants to laugh, reminisce, and smile together. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MI.
