Mrs. Janese Gorecki

From the beginning Janese did few things quietly. She did not play by the same rules as you and me, but rather she made her own as she went along. Enroute to the doctor’s, in labor, Esther Finkler had her first experience with the individual Janese was going to be. Esther was stopped outside on the sidewalk, short of the door to the office, due to Janese's insistence to get this party started. Janese Ruth Finkler, born in the doctor's office May 16, 1963. There began her life’s trajectory: insistent, loud, wildly entertaining and unruly. Being number ten of thirteen siblings she had no choice but to stand up and be noticed. She developed an unshakeable confidence to stand in the spotlight - literally and figuratively. Her audience - which could be anywhere and everywhere - was unfailingly captivated by her charm, her boldness and her wit. She never lacked new fans and friends in no small part because of her endless practical jokes, classic one-liners, and the uncanny ability to create a game out of dust. Janese was a savant when it came to making up random games. She would grab whatever was nearby - a person, a beer can, a random object - and make up something that brought both friends and strangers together that otherwise would never have spoken. This was just one aspect of Janese’s magic: the ability to bring people together, if only for a moment at a random bar or gathering: because we all - like it or not - played by Janese’s rules. Janese balanced play with work. She was quick to pick up on skills from her brothers and, never one to wait, if they didn’t know something then she simply taught herself. Encouraged to take over her late-brother’s business, she became the actual ‘Ms’ in ‘Ms Finkler Communications’ where she ruled over what was considered a man’s job - running phone cables, connecting complex phone systems, hauling around tools which weighed more than her. Because nobody was going to tell her that she couldn’t. Though small, she was fierce. Always a tomboy, she could be found gutting a deer or hooking a fish. But then she’d walk inside, grab a beer and make a five course meal for her future, unexpected guests. She could never cook for two - it was always for an army and you couldn’t say ‘NO’ when she told you to eat up the ‘leftovers’. Her maternal instinct wasn't always demonstrated with showings of affection or ‘I love you’s’. Rather it was feeding you dinner and sending you home with what was left and all the right words that probably you came looking for. She had three children at a young age - Sara, Linda and Paul - and each of them followed in her footsteps; though they would all confess that they are difficult to fill. She instilled her relentless work ethic and ‘kill them with kindness’ motto but mostly, what everyone knows as the ‘Finkler Charm.’ Even though she raised three kids and two stepdaughters, she was everyone's mother and before you knew it happened you would find yourself in her kitchen, wildly laughing, trying to win a game that only she knew the rules for. She was uncompromising in showing kindness and acceptance to every single person she met. She married her husband, Mark Gorecki, and gained two amazing step-daughters with whom she was able to share her wisdom, strength and free-spirit. Janese and Mark loved to travel, try new foods, and enjoy an occasional innocent beer or two. But her latest and most recent loves were her grandchildren. Seven in total, ranging from ages one to nine years old. Husk corn? Grandma will teach you. Gather eggs? Janese got this. Being a grandma was Janese’s favorite career move, but she made it a full-time job because she refused to go a few days without kissing, hugging or talking to them. Janese has an insatiable appetite for her family and could never get enough time with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She made it her duty to seek out a new niece's boyfriend or invite a shy child in a game. She always made you feel comfortable - like you were meant to be there. When she wasn’t snuggling a child, baking a cake, or taking care of the whole entire world, you could find her at the local sugar shack - the Finkler sugar shack, where she was the boss, the Boil Boss. She was always the director, the controller and the leader of all things - especially of ruling over her brothers. When she directed, everyone listened. Janese knew best and even if she was wrong, don’t you dare tell her. Her rules, but her family and friends were happy to abide by them. Her parents imparted a steadfast faith and she knew the Lord as her Savior. Her Catholic faith was sustained at St Joseph's church in Conklin where her relationship with Christ began and then ended when she returned to her home in Heaven on December 1st, 2019. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday 10:30 am St. Joseph Church, 18784 8th Ave, Conklin, MI 49403. Her family will receive visitors Thursday 4-8pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance NW and Friday one hour prior at church. In lieu of flowers, donations to her family for her grandchildren's college funds would be appreciated.
