Gregory James (Rudolph) Randolph

Gregory James (Rudolph) Randolph, 73, of Grand Rapids MI, passed away at his home January 7th, 2025 at his home with his family. Greg was born to George and Hazel (Shepherd) Rudolph on October 1, 1951 in Grand Rapids, MI. He grew up on the West Side which offered him many adventures and lots of good friends. He attended Stocking School Kindergarten, St. James Elementary School and Union High School. Throughout his life Greg gathered good friends, motorcycles, cars, boats, dogs, experiences and stories. But of most importance to him was the birth of his three amazing sons of whom he was extremely proud. All three have careers in the United States Air Force. First to join was Aaron Rudolph of Virginia, then Casey (Simone) Randolph of Washington D.C., and Brian (Ana) Randolph of Middleville, MI. They have all nurtured and cared for their dad 24/7 for the last months of his life on earth for which was the best care he could have. On thanksgiving Greg ‘s table was surrounded by his boys and grandkids. He loved being a grandfather to Marjorie, Travis and Natalia, Braylon and Josephine. Greg will be missed by his sisters, Charlotte Silverman, Barb Lester, Mary Munson and his brother Jack and dear sister-in-law Marlene Rudolph and Beth DeHaan Rudolph, the mother of his three boys. No one will ever forget the Annual Rudolph Christmas parties where Greg would hold court with wonderfully hilarious stories that we will miss so much. He was a story teller extraordinaire. A talent passed down from our beloved grandmother, Rose Ley, who we called “Ma”. They both had a way with words. Greg’s fascination with vehicles began when he was a young boy on Lexington Avenue. Though he was not old enough to drive he coveted our mother’s 1954 Mercury which he kept washed and waxed and often drove without our mom knowing. In 1966 Greg often snuck out Barb’s Honda motorcycle when she was not home to protect it. These escapades led to Greg’s lifetime love of riding motorcycles. Greg ended his working at Comstock Park Auto Body where he stayed for two decades. He liked his work and appreciated a great relationship with his boss and other workers. Greg became involved with AA over 18 years ago and credits the program and members with the joy, peace, and love he has gained and maintained all these years. In his last few weeks Greg was happy that they joined at his home for several meetings. Greg has spoken of the many friends, special neighbors, and Faith Hospice staff who have surrounded him with love, food, attention and care. Of course, all this was done under the watchful eye of Roscoe, Greg’s faithful companion. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd NW where his family will receive visitors one hour prior at the funeral home. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Greg’s family is comforted, amazed and thankful for all who have done so much to make Greg’s last years and months the best they could be. The Potluck dinner following the memorial will be at the Knights of Columbus at 2:30 on January 25. It will be immediately following the Memorial service at the funeral home.
