Mrs. Erma L. Lucas (Hansen)

Mrs. Erma L. Lucas (Hansen) age 88 of Comstock Park went to be with the Lord on Tuesday October 6, 2020. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI in 1932 to Ward and Thelma Hansen (Thompson), as the second of three sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents listed above, her husband Charles Lucas, her son Mark Lucas, brothers in-law Jack Witt and John Lucas, mother in-law and step father in-law Mary and Frank Dutkiewicz, brothers/sisters in-law Henry and Cecelia Forrest, and Charles and Rose (aka Pat) Kuklewski, many aunts, uncles, and grandparents. She is survived by her son Eric Lucas, her two sisters Harriet Witt and Joann (Donald) Fletcher, sister in-law Joyce Lucas, Eric's girlfriend Nancy Suchodolski a spiritual daughter-in-law and Nancy's son Darin, many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. She was baptized by the Congregational Church in 1945, a Job's Daughter, she graduated from Union High School in 1950, converted to Catholicism and married Chuck in 1952 at the Basilica of St Adalbert in Grand Rapids while he was in the Navy. They traveled to the Philippines, Washington DC and surrounding areas, and returned to Grand Rapids after his discharge, built a house and had two kids. Widowed in mid-life, she took up the challenge and worked a few jobs, mostly for the county, with her job at retirement being a computer operator at Kent County CMH. Joking and laughing and making friends all the way along. She faced other struggles head-on when Alzheimer's symptoms started to appear, and also when her younger son died. Not deterred, she set forth to meet the challenges bravely with moxie, and with loving support from family and friends. People remember her for being so much fun, her wonderful sense of humor with an often sarcastic wit, and her caring about and for others while cracking wise at gatherings and get-togethers. The neighbor's kids had milk and cookies and special Halloween bags. The last decade or so was particularly challenging, but now she is free of this mortal coil and can remember everything again, speak well again and joke around, be united with loved ones, and visit again with Mary Lou and neighbor Marge, relatives and all the rest. She added "Love will not fade away” to Mark's and her/Chuck's grave markers as a tribute to Mark's fondness for the Grateful Dead and her belief that you take the love with you. Visitation and services will be done in a single day due to Covid-19 concerns, and due to MI law and CDC recommendations masks are required. There is a regulated seating capacity limit of 75 persons. The schedule is varied for your convenience, visit or not, stay for service or not, visit grave or not, as you feel comfortable and at your discretion. No funeral repast will be conducted due to CV-19. Visitation and Service is on Tuesday, October 13th at Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary located at 3525 Remembrance Road NW, in Walker, MI 49534 11:00 - 1:00 pm is a viewing/visitation and greeting with family 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 is a Christian service, followed by an optional drive to Rosedale Memorial Park (no procession, meet there at 50 Lake Michigan Dr. if you wish). A short Grave site sermon for interment at 2:30 pm.
