Edward M Horrigan

Edward M. Horrigan, of Marne MI, passed away Tuesday, July 24, one month shy of his 87th birthday. He was born August 25, 1931 in Remus Michigan, Son of Peter and Martha Horrigan, attended St Joseph grade school in Grand Rapids, and graduated from Catholic Central in 1949. He was a Marine Corporal during the Korean War. After his military service, he returned home to Grand Rapids and married Joan Orlowski, in June 1955. Ed was a successful builder and contractor for over 42 years, building in Wyoming and Holland for many years. His greatest achievement was his family, and how he always put his family first. From celebrating holidays and birthdays, yearly caravan trips to Cedar Pointe, camping and the family cottage near Kalkaska. Even though it could get crowded at the cottage he loved having fun and sharing laughs with his kids, grandkids and great grand kids and friends. Getting us all up at dawn and making breakfast. He shared stories of how he used to tend bar on roller skates and his military days, and how the friends he made throughout his life were so important to him. Ed loved Golf, bowling, hunting, fishing and roller coasters. He was a member of the American Legion and loved to hang out with his friends at "Laddies". The last 10 years he showed true love and compassion by taking care of his beloved wife during her battle with dementia up until her death last November. He will be deeply missed by his children Mike (Chris) Horrigan, Pam (Bud) Whinery, Patrick (Jenna) Horrigan and Pete (Tina) Horrigan. Grand Children; Kevin and Dan Horrigan, Melissa (Rich) Terpstra, Megan Whinery, Natalie and Alyssa Horrigan and Adeline and Brody Horrigan. 6 Great grandchildren; Brennan and Cameron Horrigan and Nora, James, Olivia and Henry Terpstra. His sister Donna Paige and brother Larry (Mary) Horrigan; sister's in law Dolorine Vainavicz and Joan Horrigan; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Joan, son Dan, parents Peter and Martha Horrigan, brothers Clair and Jim Horrigan. Brothers in law Don Paige, Bill Vainavicz, Robert (Rosemary) Orlowski. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Friday at Holy Spirit Church, where he will repose one hour prior to Mass. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd NW, where a Vigil Service will be held Thursday at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
