Mrs. Dorothy Anne Baker

Mrs. Dorothy Anne Baker, (Kozak) age 96 went to be with the Lord and Saviour on Saturday February 11, 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Bernice Kozak. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Patrick J. Baker and her dear daughter, Jean Marie Baker and sister-in-law Virginia Baker. Surviving are her loving son Richard J. Baker; sister-in-law Helen Stearns; nephews and nieces; many cousins; special friends Colleen and Joseph Baweja. Dorothy attended St. Isidore Grade School and in 1944 graduated from Davis Vocational and Technical High School. She worked many years in the office of the former Kelvinator and later, after seventeen years of service, retired from the Grand Rapids City Clerk’s office. Among some of her interests were taking pictures with her husband on their many travels in the United States, Canada, Europe and Central America. She especially loved Delta Queen Steam boating on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers and Tributaries and River barging across the state of Missouri. She was also a lighthouse enthusiast, having visited many of them as members of both, The United States Lighthouse Society and Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association. Going to Museums of Art was another of her pleasures. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, working crossword puzzles and watching the Tigers play ball. Some of the happiest times were the ones spent with her family, relatives and friends each summer for many years at their cottage at Big Brower Lake, and she always looked forward to meeting monthly with longtime friends of her F.T.O.O. Club. Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Isidore Church and the Ladies Altar Rosary Society. She also served as first Historian for St. Isidore Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary. Dorothy was loved and will be missed by family and friends. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11:00 am at St. Isidore's Church, 628 Diamond Ave N.E. where her family will receive visitors one hour prior to the Mass. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Isidore's Church or the American Cancer Society will be appreciated. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the Staff at Edison Christian and Faith Hospice for their compassionate care.
