Donald Miller

"Life is like a mountain railway, with an engineer that's brave; we must make the run successful from the cradle to the grave." On the evening of February 25, 2012 Donald Eugene Miller, aged 84, peacefully rode his train into Heaven surrounded by his family. Don was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary T. Miller (Gosciniak), his parents, Lawrence and Mina Miller, and sister Marcia Clapp. He is survived by his sons Larry (Joey) Miller, Steven "Duffy" (Mary Jo) Miller; cherished granddaughters Christina (Christopher) Parrett, Katey (Andrew) Morse, Theresa (Patrick) Doggett, Julie (Zach) LaCroix, Kathryn Miller, Nicole (Mike) Krupnik; great-grandchildren Branden and Blake Parrett, Dylan and Bennett Morse and Emma Doggett; sister-in-law Mildred (John) Jablonski; special friends Chip & Kitty McIntyre and Marie VanDyke; several nieces and nephews. Don worked for the railroad for 43 years (Pennsylvania, Penn Central and Conrail) as the yardmaster of the rail yard visible from US 131. Don was also a Gold Card Member at the Casino Club where he enjoyed their Fish Frys and Pancake Breakfasts. He loved heading up to Manistee to try his luck at the casino, watching Notre Dame football and he enjoyed his breakfasts at New Beginnings Restaurant on Michigan St. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and we take comfort in knowing we can share numerous stories about him for years to come. We would like to extend a special thank you to Joy, Tammy and the rest of the staff at Emerald Meadows for their compassionate care of Don, and to Spectrum Health Hospice for their support in keeping Don comfortable in his last days. His family will receive visitors Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers East Mortuary, 937 Michigan NE. A Mass of Christian Burial and Committal will be celebrated Saturday 10:00 am at St. Isidore Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
