Charles "Bill" Goodwin

Charles "Bill" Goodwin from Grand Rapids, MI died on November 5, 2024, at the age of 28,056 days or 76 years old. Our Dad lived in the moment and loved the "High Life," figuratively and literally. While his brain aneurysm 5 years ago and more recent health issues took him away from us way too early, prior to that, he loved doing things with his family and friends, especially when it involved participating in St. George's Social Club activities where he was a long-standing member and Board Member. Although he was an introvert at heart, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, bowling, golfing, shooting pool, throwing darts, dancing with his family, singing karaoke..though badly and back in the day, going to the old Stadium Arena to play broom-ball and watch the GR Blades and GR Owls hockey teams. And of course, he enjoyed watching his beloved Detroit Redwings. While he may have been a little rough around the edges, the softer side of "Mr. Bill" was there, especially when a family or friend needed a hand or when St. Georges needed a volunteer to be Santa's Elf to help with handling out Christmas presents at the annual children's Christmas party. Throughout his life, he spent many years working as little as he could, at Grand Rapids Die Cast, and Meijer in their warehouse. The job he loved the most was Bar Manager at St. Georges. Our Dad was preceded in death by his mom and dad - Jo and Chuck Tomasunas, his brother - Walt (Judy), and his sister - Sherry. He is survived by his sisters - Dorothy and Sandra, his three, yes three ex-wives - Sandra, Terri and Roxanne; his son - Aaron (Shannon); his daughters - Veronica (Pat) and Stacey (John); his grandkids - Madison (Cody), Shea, Avery, Cody and Jacob (Nicole), his great grand kids - Maverick and Ensley; his many cousins, nephews and nieces and his St. Georges family. He will be missed by those who knew him. We would like to say a special thank you to the caregivers at Meadowlark Assisted Living in Sparta and Corewell Health Hospice as they put up with Dad's salty, sarcastic and "charming" personality, and loved and cared for him as their own. He truly was one of their more enjoyable elders as while he gave it, he took it just as well. Per his wishes, we are planning a "Celebration of High Life" party for Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 4-9pm at St. George's Club at 1513 Quarry Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI. We want this gathering to be a true celebration and plan to have time to reflect on his life, enjoy a nice meal, have a few of your favorite drinks of choice (and even a Miller HighLife salute), play some pool, shuffleboard and cards as he loved doing and of course dance to some of his favorite tunes. We would be honored if you could join us no matter if it is just to stop in for a bit to visit with family or to stay longer to enjoy food, drinks, sharing memories, and dancing. With Dad being the blue-collar man and Detroit Redwings fan that he was, dress is 100% casual with bonus points if you wear anything Detroit Redwing related. In lieu of flowers, donations to Corewell Health Hospice or St. Georges Kids Christmas Fund will be accepted.
