Barbara E. (Fanning) Sedlecky

Barbara E. (Fanning) Sedlecky, age 86, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 17, 2022. Barbara was born September 17, 1935, in Grand Rapids, MI to Helen (Purcell) and William G. Fanning. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard D., her son Richard J., her granddaughter Michelle Lunn, and her sister Eileen Butler. Barbara is survived by her brother, William T. (Susanne) Fanning, brother-in-law Gene Butler, and sister-in-law Mary (Richard) Tarchinski, along with six remaining children: Marianne L. (David) Stauber of Highlands Ranch, CO.; Suzanne M. (Michael) Lunn of Ada, MI; Thomas R. (Debbra) Sedlecky of Florissant, CO; Joseph G. (Mary) of Grand Rapids, MI; John P.R.G. (Jane) of Byron Center, MI; Jeanne M. (Brian) Herrmann of Comstock Park, MI; and close family friend Sarah Gengelbach (Richie). She is also survived by her grandchildren Ann Marie Stauber, Laura (Luke) Snyder, Matthew (Christina) Lunn, Morgen Sedlecky, Kara Terry, Justin Sedlecky, Benjamin (Kelly) Sedlecky, Elliot (Ashlee) Sedlecky, Samuel (Nicole) Sedlecky, Chelsea (Casey) Coretti, Emily Sedlecky, Cameron Sedlecky, Joshua Sedlecky, Nathan (Becky) Tagg, Dustin (Erin) Nash, and Danielle Nash, her great-grandchildren Tenley, Veda, and Ruth Sedlecky, Ellenor, Iris, and Larkin Sedlecky, Charlotte Coretti, Hudson, Dawson, and Tyson Tagg, Weston Potter, and Ella Patrick, and many nieces, nephews, and long-time friends. Barbara graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1953, was awarded her BA and MA degrees from Aquinas College, and received a Specialty Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Addiction from Western Michigan University. Barbara worked as an Addiction Counselor until her retirement in October 2013. Barbara was an avid reader (especially of mysteries) and enjoyed theatre, college football (Go Irish!), and baseball (Go Tigers!). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 23rd at 11:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Alpine), where her body will lie in repose one hour prior to the service. Interment at Holy Trinity Cemetery will take place immediately following Mass. Barbara’s family will receive visitors on Sunday, May 22nd from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-9:00pm at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd. NW. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Michelle Lunn Hope Foundation.
