Andrew Thomas Arsulowicz

Andrew Thomas Arsulowicz, age 53, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, in Atlanta, GA., where he was a resident for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Arsulowicz, and survived by his mother, Carla (Galant) Arsulowicz, of Orlando, FL., sister, Amy A. Shipley, MD, brother-in-law, CMDR, US Navy (Ret.) Matthew Shipley, and the Shipley nephews and niece, Joshua, Ryan, Daniel, and Megan of Oakton, VA. He will be missed but always remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends in Michigan, Florida, and Georgia. He also leaves behind his loved English Golden Retriever pup, Porkchop. Andrew was born in Peru, Indiana, at Grissom Air Force Base. He attended school at Holy Spirit Catholic School, Grand Rapids, and graduated from St. Margaret Mary Catholic School, Winter Park, FL. He attended Bishop Moore Catholic High School, Orlando, FL. and graduated from Winter Park High School, FL. He attended Valencia Community College, Orlando, FL and Grand Rapids Community College. He was an avid sports enthusiast from childhood participating in baseball, soccer, track, and surfing which he mastered in his youth when his family moved from Michigan to central Florida in 1981. As an adult, he also enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado, North Carolina, and Lake Tahoe, NV, golfing, fishing, hiking and camping with friends, running in local road races, and surfing in the ocean. He was lovingly known as “Frenchie” to his GA. friends, “Uncle Frenchie” to his friends’ children, and “Uncle Andrew” to his nephews and niece. He was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and University of Georgia Football. Andrew was employed in the restaurant/beverage hospitality industry for 30 years in Michigan, and Georgia which included management at Cornucopia Deli at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel - Grand Rapids, the Ritz Carlton Hotel- Buckhead, GA, The Palm Steakhouse in the Westin Hotel-Buckhead, management at the Wall Street Journal acclaimed Horseradish Grill – Chastain Park, Atlanta, management at McDuff’s Irish Pub -Buckhead, and management at Verde Taqueria- Atlanta. In the hospitality industry, he was well known for his positive attitude with a smile, knowledge in pairing beverages with food entrees, upheld fine standards of service, and well versed in fine dining, fast casual, and high volume establishments. Andrew was very skillful and artistic in his culinary preparations of new recipes and innovative barbeque techniques. He was a member of the DeKalb, GA. Chamber of Commerce, supported the Surfrider Foundation, San Clemente, CA., and attended Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Atlanta (Brookhaven), GA. Andrew was friendly, gregarious, and an adventurous person who had a kind and caring heart. He had respect for others, loyalty to his friends, hardworking, a good sense of humor, and generosity in assisting others who were in need without being asked. He was a devoted son who made it a priority to happily help his mother with home maintenance, gardening projects, and post hurricane clean-up during his visits to Orlando, enjoyed going to the FL. beaches on the Atlantic coast, and University of Central Florida (UCF) home football games with his mother and family friends. When flying to Orlando, he would always include visits with his maternal grandmother, Stella, who had declined in health and resided in an assisted living facility, a nursing home, and a memory care facility in central Florida for the last seven years of her life before she passed on at 95 years old. He had participated in volunteer registration duties for local running races in Atlanta. As a working manager he had participated in a partnership project through Verde Taqueria backed by local donors for food preparation and delivery of well over 500 meals each to Piedmont Hospital and Emory Hospital, Atlanta, to healthcare workers during the Coronavirus Pandemic crisis in 2020. He is described by many friends as a true gentleman who would give you “the shirt off his back” if you were in need. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr. N.W, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, where the family will receive visitors one hour before the Mass from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andrew’s memory to either the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or (donation website: stjude.org ), or the Nancy Stringer School Scholarship Fund at St. Margaret Mary Catholic School, 142 E. Swoope Ave., Winter Park, FL. 32789.
