John Albert Spruit

John Albert Spruit, born on August 7, 1930, was welcomed into heaven on the arms of Jesus on June 24, 2014 surrounded by his angels and his family. John is survived by his faithful wife of 58 years, Wanda “Windy” and children: Bernadette (Perry) DeVries, and their children, Jenna (Raymond) Venezia, Deanna DeVries; Julie (Michael) Block and their children, Rachelle Block and great grandson Emory Block, Michael John (Kristina) Block, Trevor Block; Susan (Peter) Krupp, and their children, Charles Christian Krupp II, Dillon Krupp, Kate Krupp, Isabel Krupp; Nancy Spruit, and her children, Caleb John (Mindy) Kitchen, Kara (Jeffery) Couto, Cassandra Kitchen; Timothy John (Magdalena) Spruit; sisters, Margret McCarthy and Cecelia Schafer. Many, many nieces and nephews, and friends. John was an obedient son, faithful husband, devoted father and grandfather. He graduated from St. Anthony’s School and Catholic Central High School. His family was his hobby, pride and joy. John never missed an event that his children or grandchildren participated in. He was their greatest fan! John loved to spend time with his family camping, traveling and playing games. His grand legacy is the love and kindness to his family. He spent 40 enjoyable years of his career with the United States Postal Service and had a friendship with many of his NW Grand Rapids patrons. He and Wanda traveled the world during retirement. Much of their travel was by motorhome visiting 48 states. John enjoyed gardening which you can see in his yard, especially his prize raspberries and grapes. He had a servant’s heart and was a respected father. He will be greatly missed. Please join John’s family for visitation and celebration of his life on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Arsulowicz Brothers West Chapel, 585 Stocking NW, with the praying of the rosary at 3:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial and Committal Service to take place on Saturday June 28, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 224 Carrier St. NE. Grand Rapids, with an additional hour visitation prior. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Please consider a memorial contribution in John's name to Alzheimer’s Association of West Michigan.
