Dorothy "Dottie" (Kwekel) Unrath Bouwer

Dorothy “Dottie” (Kwekel) Unrath Bouwer, age 67, unexpectedly passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 6, 2022. Dottie was born on March 31, 1955, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She resided in west Michigan all her life. She is preceded by her mother, Arlene Kwekel and father, John Kwekel. She is survived by her husband Tony Bouwer, sisters Betty (Steve) Nelson and Char (Bob) Deyoung, and favorite baby brother, Bob Kwekel. She raised her surviving sons, Rob (Kim) Unrath, Jon (Abby) Unrath, and Glenn (Svaja) Unrath all originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the perfect bonus mom to her stepchildren Chris (Leah), Rebecca, Brittany, and Johnathan. She was very proud of her grandchildren Taylor, Bergen, Sloane, Greer, Liam, Elle, Merritt, Amelia, Olivia, and Aidas. She was also honored to be great grandmother to Skyla. Dottie loved her family deeply. Her boys were her greatest blessing in life and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Throughout their childhood, Dottie loved watching her boys play sports and build forts in the backyard. She was proud of the gentlemen they grew up to be. Dottie loved her daughters-in-law, always commenting on how nice it was to have girls in the family to spend time with. Her grandchildren were by far the little loves of her life. She loved swimming, playing new board games, making crafts, and baking with them. There was never a dull moment when the grandkids were over, and she adored it. Her love for children carried over into her daily life where she was a part of Comstock Park Public Schools for 28 years. She treated everyone with love and respect. Dottie was proud of the kids she was able to make an impact on over her years at the school. She was the lead cook at a camp in northern Michigan, helped at several youth camps in the summer, and was a strong asset to her beloved church. Dottie loved spending time in her kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and wonderful baked goods for the community. She would always tweak a recipe until it was absolutely perfect and couldn’t help but share all her home-baked goods, lemon tarts and cream puffs being the family favorites. Dottie was also an amazing host. She loved gathering her family together at Christmas time, was the first to offer her services for any bridal or baby showers, supported numerous family and friends’ weddings, and volunteered for many other functions. She was truly remarkable in the kitchen no matter if she was serving two people or 200 people. A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, June 13, 2022, at the same location starting at 11 a.m. EDT with visitation one hour prior to services.
